As the 2026 boys lacrosse is set to begin next week, a reshuffling of the deck in a few regions could have a big impact on the upcoming season.
Nothing has changed in 6A, where five-time defending state champs Corner Cayon gets the nod at the top in the Deseret News annual preseason coaches rankings.
The Chargers are led by returning 6A Player of the Year Rhett King, who made 190 saves in goal a year ago. All-state attacker Pierson DeGracie is also back to lead the Chargers attack.
Skyridge, Farmington, Lone Peak and Mountain Ridge round out the top five in 6A.
Realignment will have the biggest impact on 5A and 4A.
Two-time 4A state jump Judge Memorial is bumping up into 5A and will begin the season ranked No. 3 in 5A behind No. 1 Park City and No. 2 Brighton, the defending 5A champs.
Judge Memorial is certainly good enough to win it all, as are a handful of the teams in 5A.
“We are fortunate to have a strong core of returning players. However, as we look across the league we know that there are other programs in the same position and it’s going to be a very challenging and competitive season,” said Park City coach Michael Persky.
Judge coach Jeff Brzoska’s team is loaded with returning talent and excited to try and make the big jump.
“All those freshman that we started in 2023 are now seniors and they have the chance to go out as one of the best teams in the school’s storied history. We have a great group of juniors, sophomores and freshman that are ready to step up and provide the deepest team we have had in the four years we have been here and to keep building on what these amazing seniors have done,” said Brzoska.
Judge’s departure from 4A opens the door for a new state champ this season.
Last year’s 4A runner-up Juan Diego will begin the season ranked No. 1 in the coaches rankings, followed by Waterford, Green Canyon, Snow Canyon and Sky View.
The Soaring Eagle will have a strong attack this season led by Noah Schuyler and Parker Stolz,
