On the hottest day along the Wasatch Front in 2026, Riverton’s bats also caught fire with their best outing of the preseason.

In a matchup of undefeated teams, No. 1 Riverton crushed Davis on Wednesday afternoon to the tune of 19 runs on 17 hits in a resounding 19-3 road victory.

Five different players homered for the Silverwolves as they finished with nine extra base hits. Tied 3-3 after the first, Riverton scored four runs in the second, three in the third, six in the fourth and then four more in the fifth to win via the mercy rule.

Maggie Hamblin was one of six different players who drove in runs as the senior Ute commit went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and five RBIs. Lead-off hitter Peyton Sanchez also homered and drove in four runs, with Grace Leary adding two doubles, a home run and two RBIs.

Sanchez got the start in the circle for Riverton, but only lasted a 1/3 of inning as Davis got to her early with three runs on three hits.

Riverton coach Whitley Haimin made a quick change, giving the ball to junior Lindsey Strieby who settled things down quickly only allowed two hits the rest of the way, striking out six as she improved to 5-0 this season.

It was a particularly satisfying day at the plate for Riverton, especially after needing extra innings to stay undefeated in its past two games. On Tuesday night, its bats struggled against Copper Hills as it struck out 16 times, and didn’t pull away until the top of the ninth inning with five runs for the 6-1 win.

Then last Friday, it needed two runs in the top of eighth to beat Taylorsville 7-5.

Prior to that, Riverton had averaged nearly 12 runs per game in its first eight victories, winning by an average of nine runs. After a couple blips at the plate the past few games, Riverton’s bats were awakened on the road at Davis in improving to 11-0 this season.

Riverton’s batters have combined for 18 home runs this year and 26 doubles.
