High school track and field: Top performances (Week 3 update), Bonneville’s Davis DeGroot, Weber’s Josh Hamblin both set new overall state records

DeGroot posts fastest-ever 400 meter time, Hamblin races to best-ever 110 hurdles time

James has been covering high school sports in Utah for the Deseret News for three decades.

Week 3 of the high school track season was a busy one, and a record-breaking one for several athletes.

Bonneville senior Davis DeGroot won the 400 meters at the Pine Invitational with a scintillating time of 45.46, breaking Utah’s overall state record of 46.05 by .59 seconds. It’s the fastest time in the country so far this 2026 spring track season.

Weber senior Josh Hamblin broke his own record in the 110 hurdles at the Farmington Super Meet.

Two years ago as a sophomore Hamblin posted a time of 13.80 in the vent, but last Thursday he lowered that time with a 13.59 on Farmington’s track.

Several other athletes had near-misses in their record pursuits, including Emery’s Skylee Guymon and Pine View’s Kiera Sam Fong. With still two months remaining in the season and numerous athletes on record watch each week, more records will inevitably fall in 2026.

Here’s a look at the top boys and girls track and field performances at UHSAA sanctioned events in all 38 events after the second week of the season.

Individuals are only listed once if they have multiple top-15 results in the same event; wind times are not included. Only performances at in-state sanctioned meets are included as organized by meettrax.com. A complete list beyond the top 15 can be found at sporttrax.com.
