Lone Peak continued its dominant winning ways, walking away victorious in a convincing win over Mountain View 25-18, 28-26, 25-19 on Thursday.

The match was never in question for Lone Peak. Mountain View showed its grit and grind in the second set and led for a big chunk of it, but Lone Peak went on a run late in the set to take the first two sets of the match and seize hold of the momentum.

“I think we kind of took Mountain View for granted a little bit,” said Knights head coach Cecil Read. “The first set, we kind of got them pretty easy and I think we thought that was gonna be the same the whole game.

“They started to get those balls and serving in the gaps. ”We didn’t do a good job with their floating serve. It’s something that we have to learn from and get better at. We really have to approach the float serve with really aggressive hands and I think we’ll be alright. I think it’s a good time in the season to learn that.”

Continued Read: “You always try to find those games that help you grind and help you gel as a team. They were having a lot of fun out there, especially in the third set. Being able to have fun while you’re winning is big and we need that, especially when things get tight and we get a little grumpy when the game isn’t going well.”

With the straight sets win over Mountain View, Lone Peak has now lost just one set in its last nine matches, with its lone dropped set being against Springville earlier in the season.

Read credits his team’s dominant performance as of late to its early season struggles when it was facing some of the top teams in the country and what it was able to take away from that experience.

“The early season struggles that we had against the California teams really have our minds in a good spot right now,” Read said. “Every day in practice we try to challenge ourselves with a high level.

“Springville was a tough loss for us and they’re going to make a run. Really, the early season stuff and going against the top 20 teams in the country will teach you a lot.”
