Former University of Utah skier Guro Jordheim died this week, the school announced Thursday.
Jordheim, 29, skied for Utah from 2017-20. She was a seven-time All-American, two-time RMISA women’s Nordic Athlete of the Year (2018 and 2020) and helped the Utes win two national championships during her time in Salt Lake City.
“We are heartbroken by the sudden, tragic passing of Utah Ski Team alumna Guro Jordheim,” a statement from the program read. “Guro was loved by everyone who knew her, both on and off the skis. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, teammates and loved ones ❤️."
According to proxcskiing.com, Hemsedal, Norway, police confirmed that Jordheim was one of two people that died — Max Andersson from Sweden being the other — following an avalanche in a backcountry skiing area.
