Since BYU’s first round NCAA tournament loss to Texas, eight Cougars players with remaining eligibility have entered the transfer portal.
Only Rob Wright has withdrawn from the portal to stay at BYU, with each of the other seven players now having found new homes.
The latest former Cougar to land elsewhere is guard Tyler Mrus, who announced his commitment to the Citadel Saturday via social media.
Mrus appeared in 27 games during his lone season at BYU, averaging 2.0 points and 0.9 rebounds while shooting 31% from the field.
While he was a nearly 40% 3-point shooter at Idaho in 2024-25, Mrus couldn’t find similar success in Provo, and will now play for his third school in three years.
Aside from Mrus, Abdullah Ahmed (UMass), Aleksej Kostic (Northwestern), Dominique Diomande (Pitt), KJ Perry (Fresno State), Kennard Davis Jr. (Missouri) and Xavion Staton (Oregon State) have all committed to new programs after leaving BYU.
As for BYU’s additions from the portal, the Cougars have brought in four Power Five transfers — Collin Chandler (Kentucky), Tyler Betsey (Syracuse), Jake Wahlin (Clemson) and walk-on Adam Stewart (TCU) — along with incoming freshmen Bruce Branch III, Dean Rueckert and Brooks Bahr.
Wright, Khadim Mboup and Dawson Baker are BYU’s only returning players who logged minutes this past season. Brody Kozlowski and Nate Pickens, each sidelined for all of 2025-26 with injuries, will be back as well.
The Cougars still have four scholarship spots left to fill, with both a starter and backup at the center position sticking out as their most glaring roster need.
