Two high school football players announced their commitments to BYU on Sunday as part of the Cougars’ 2027 recruiting class.

Jaxson Rex is an athlete from San Clemente, California, who chose BYU over UCLA and a number of other programs, On3’s Greg Biggins reported Sunday.

If Rex’s last name sounds familiar in relation to BYU football, it’s because his uncle Byron played for the Cougars in the early ‘90s, and several cousins (Byron Rex’s sons) have played for the team in recent years (one, running back Preston Rex, will be a senior in 2026).

Meanwhile, kicker/punter James Thorley also announced his pledge to the Cougars on social media.
