BYU has made a change at its backup big man spot.
With Jakub Urbaniak being ruled ineligible by the NCAA and returning to Europe, Serbian center Petar Ostojic has committed to the Cougars, according to a Thursday report from Robby McCombs of Vanquish the Foe.
The 19-year-old Ostojic is listed at 7-foot-1 and has already arrived to Provo, per McCombs. He averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in last year’s FIBA U18 Eurobasket tournament, which included a 25-point, 14-rebound and six-block effort against North Macedonia.
“There’s little concern Ostojic will be eligible due to the low level he has played at,” wrote McCombs. “Everyone in his same situation has been cleared by the NCAA.”
Jaxon Kohler, whose chances of eligibility are still less than 100%, will be BYU’s starting center this season, with both Khadim Mboup and Ostojic receiving minutes in the post when Kohler is off the floor.
BYU now has one open roster spot remaining.
