After roughly a week and a half since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, the FBI on Tuesday released images of a “potential subject in the investigation.”
FBI Director Kash Patel, in a post on X, said authorities “have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors — including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”
“Working with our partners — as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” Patel said.
He posted six black-and-white photos and two videos of someone covering the security camera at Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home.
Guthrie went missing on Feb. 1. Her daughter, “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, issued several public messages in response to two ransom notes sent to local news outlets.
The Guthrie family has not paid the ransom amount but has asked for the potential abductors to communicate with them and promised to pay.
Savannah Guthrie, in her latest post on Instagram, wrote, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there” alongside a video. She also posted four pictures of the potential subject.
These photos come after the second ransom deadline passed. As per the notes received by local news stations, the ransom note demanded $4 million in bitcoin as payment by Thursday, Feb. 5, or else the demand would increase to $6 million by Monday, Feb. 9.
The White House reposted Patel’s post along with a note of encouragement from the president.
“The President encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of this suspect to please call the FBI who continue to assist state and local authorities,” the White House said.
