In Arizona, authorities found a missing person who disappeared in 1994.

Christina Marie Plante, now 44, went missing at the age of 13.

“After 32 years, Christina Marie Plante has been located alive. Investigators have confirmed her identity, and her status as a missing person has been officially resolved,” according to a statement from the Gila County sheriff’s office.

She vanished “without a trace” on May 15, 1994, at noon in Star Valley, Payson, Arizona, after “she left home on foot to go to the stable where her horse was,” the statement said. At the time, her case was classified as “Endangered and under suspicious circumstances,” and she was entered into the national missing children databases.

“At the time of her disappearance, extensive search efforts were conducted involving local law enforcement, volunteers, and regional resources,” the sheriff’s office said, but the expansive investigation did not produce any viable leads.

The investigation landed on the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit’s desk.

“Utilizing advances in technology, modern investigative techniques, and detailed case review, detectives developed new leads that ultimately led to a breakthrough,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office did not release any details related to the case out of respect for Plante’s privacy.
