Coyotes are expanding their habitat beyond just the forests and mountains of North America. But it appears nobody told Max the tuxedo cat about the risks.

Just over a week ago, a tuxedo house cat named Max was taking a nighttime stroll in the backyard of his Highland Park, California, home when he was confronted by a band of coyotes, The Washington Post reports.

His owner, Maya Gurrin, was watching Netflix’s “Stranger Things” with her husband, Eliot Gurrin, before noticing three coyotes in her backyard, The Washington Post reports.

Maya Gurrin quickly chased off the coyotes and brought Max inside. Later, she checked her home security footage and realized her cat may not have needed her help.

The video footage captures Max’s epic battle with the hungry predators, who ran back in fear repeatedly when Max hissed and clawed at them.

In fact, Max was completely unfazed.

“He wanted to go right back outside like a psycho,” Gurrin told The Washington Post.

Max’s fierce fighting impressed Gurrin so much that she joked in an interview with CBSLA about hiring him out as a bodyguard.

She later clarified, much to his dismay, that Max is now an indoor cat.

Gurrin is building Max a “catio” — a patio for a cat — so he can enjoy the outdoors without having to fight off predators, The Washington Post reports.

Coyotes have been creeping into highly populated metropolises like Chicago and earning themselves a new name the “urban coyote,” reports the New York Times.

Last week, a 6-year-old child and a 32-year-old man were hospitalized after coyote attacks, according to ABC News.
