Since the pandemic began, people have chosen to wear face masks under their nose. You’ve seen them. People who wear the mask with their nose poking out from the top of the mask.

  • “I see it everywhere. I see it in grocery stores. … I tend to see it, actually, (with) people wearing their masks outside,” Colin Furness, an infection control epidemiologist with the University of Toronto, told Global News in Canada.

Wearing a mask under the nose is pretty much like not wearing a mask at all, he said.

  • “If someone’s got their nose peeking out, it’s really no different than not wearing a mask.”

  • 41% of people statewide are comfortable without a face covering.
  • 19% of Utahns said it’ll take longer than six months before they feel safe without a mask.
