Yellowstone National Park will close guest lodging options for the winter due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Associated Press reports.

  • More than 100 units will close for the rest of 2020.
  • The units are closing for the winter to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
  • The park has less medical services available, too, during the winter. The park will only be available through snowmobiles and snowcoaches.
  • Only the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel will be open during the winter, according to the park’s website. The former will only be open during the daytime hours, according to Yellowstone Insider.

September was a good month

Yellowstone saw its highest number of visitors for September this year with 837,000 people visiting the park, according to KTVB. That’s 21% higher than in September 2019 and 15.6% higher than 2018, which is now the second busiest September in the park.

Yellowstone closed its doors from March 24 to May 18 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Entrances from Wyoming reopened afterward.
