Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, The New York Times reports.
- McDaniel’s diagnosis was reported hours after President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump announced that they had tested positive for the coronavirus, too.
- McDaniel is reportedly experiencing mild symptoms. She “is the latest person who is in frequent contact with President Trump to test positive for the virus,” according to The New York Times.
- McDaniel previously saw Trump last Friday. She has stayed at her home in Michigan since then.
A spokesman from the RNC sent the Deseret News the following statement: “After a member of her family tested positive for COVID-19, the Chairwoman was tested for the virus. On Wednesday afternoon, she got confirmation she was COVID-19 positive. She has been at her home in Michigan since last Saturday.”
Trump tests positive
On Thursday night, Trump announced that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
- “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
Melania Trump also tweeted about her diagnosis.
- “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”
On Friday morning, Vice President Mike Pence, and his wife, Karen, tested negative for the coronavirus. And Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he tested negative, too.
Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris reportedly tested negative, too.
