Idaho just became the state with the highest positive COVID-19 test rate in the United States, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins University.

  • Idaho’s positive testing rate for this week: 24.4%
  • South Dakota’s testing rate: 20.1%
  • Wisconsin: 19.4%
  • Iowa: 17.2%
  • Nevada: 15.1%
  • Kansas: 15.0%
  • Utah: 14.2%

The study suggests 24 out of every 100 tests given ends up being positive for COVID-19.

Some context:

Per IdahoNews.com, the state was the second highest in the country up until Thursday.

The state saw cases bounce around 200 to 500 per day before dropping down to 100s. But the cases have jumped into the 600s this week.

I wrote about Idaho’s coronavirus spike back in the summer for Deseret.com. The infection rate was similar to Florida, Texas and Louisiana — which had seen spikes at the time.
