Key storm alert — CNN reports that Salt Lake City and much of the Western United States could see a major winter stormthis weekend.
- Rain will hit much of the Pacific Northwest, where as much as 1 to 3 inches could fall. Some areas could see 4 inches of rain.
- The Rocky Mountain range — from Montana and Colorado — could see more than 1 foot of snow through the weekend.
- Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Boise, Idaho, could see temperatures drop over the next 24 hours from 20 degrees above average to 10 to 15 below normal in one quick shift, CNN reports.
In Salt Lake City, snowfall is expected to reach 3 to 4 inches in the mountain cities like Park City and Heber City.
- Salt Lake City is expected to see less than an inch, and the same could be said for Provo. Tooele could see 1 to 2 inches, though, according to the National Weather Service.
Grant Weyman, a KSL weather meteorologist, released a forecast for the weekend early Friday morning:
- “Today will be the last of the 70s for the season. Warm and windy, as a storm gets closer today. Tomorrow the temp drops as a front moves in. Expect rain and some thunderstorms possible as well for Saturday. Colder Sunday with rain and snow. Very cold next week.”
