The Royal Caribbean’s “cruise to nowhere” has been canceled after one of the passengers tested positive for COVID-19, USA Today reports.

What’s happening?

The “cruise to nowhere” — a cruise that sails around without porting in any city — departed Singapore. It ended early as the cruise ship returned to port on Wednesday one day ahead of schedule

  • “In the last 24 hours, one guest aboard Quantum of the Seas tested positive for coronavirus after checking in with our medical team,” Lyan Sierra-Caro, spokesperson for Royal Caribbean, told USA Today.

The elderly passenger had previously tested negative for COVID-19 before boarding.

Passengers who had been in close contact were traced immediately. All other COVID-19 tests came back negative, USA Today reports.

  • “The ship returned to port today in accordance with government protocols,” Sierra-Caro told USA Today.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people avoid traveling on cruise ships because of the risk of COVID-19.

The CDC said passengers on cruise ships “are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships.”
