Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the top U.S. disease experts, has a warning for the United States of America — Christmas could be a “greater challenge” than Thanksgiving when it comes to the novel coronavirus.
What’s going on?
Fauci told CNN in a new interview that his concerns for Christmas were similar to how he felt about Thanksgiving. However, he said Christmas might be a bigger threat because it “may be even more compounded because it’s a longer holiday.”
“I think it could be even more of a challenge than what we saw with Thanksgiving,” Fauci said. “I hope that people realize that and understand that as difficult as this is, nobody wants to modify — if not essentially shut down — their holiday season, but we are in a very critical time in this country right now.
He said the U.S. is “at a very critical time ... we’ve got to not walk away from the facts and the data. This is tough going for all of us.”
Worries over winter:
Dr. Deborah Birx warned over the weekend that the upcoming winter has created a COVID-19 surge that will be one of the worst events in U.S. history, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- “This is not just the worst public health event. This is the worst event that this country will face, not just from a public health side,” Birx told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
