An oncology nurse whose TikTok post mocking coronavirus restrictions went viral no longer works at her hospital, BuzzFeed News reports.
What happened:
A nurse from Salem, Oregon, went viral in a TikTok video in which she mocked COVID-19 restrictions.
- The nurse wore scrubs and a stethoscope around her neck. She walked into the break room. A caption of the video read:
“When my coworkers find out I still travel, don’t wear a mask when I am out and let my kids have playdates.”
- She then lip-synced to “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
- She was condemned for mocking COVID-19 restrictions.
The original video was deleted from TikTok. However, users captured the video in order to share it, according to The Sacramento Bee.
So what’s going on now?
BuzzFeed News reports the hospital investigated the incident, saying the video showed “cavalier disregard for the seriousness of this pandemic and her indifference towards physical distancing and masking outside of work.”
- The hospital told BuzzFeed: “The nurse in question is no longer employed with Salem Health.”
- It’s unclear if the nurse was fired or if she quit the hospital.
- “We do not publicly discuss personnel decisions,” the hospital told BuzzFeed News.
Salem Health posted about the situation on Facebook, telling people to take every precaution when it comes to COVID-19.
- “Salem Health believes we all need to do our part to protect the vulnerable and stop the rapid spread of COVID-19. This includes requiring staff, patients and visitors to follow guidance from the CDC and others about mask wearing and social distancing. The COVID pandemic is serious and requires a serious response. And at Salem Health we are very serious about our approach to COVID.”
