The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV by 11 points. But for many people, the big game isn’t just about the score, it’s about the food.
Across the United States, people gathered with family and friends to watch the game and eat, but the food differed by state. Thanks to a recent Google Trends map, we can now see what each state planned to snack on the most during the Super Bowl.
The colorful map shows the most googled recipes in each state in the week leading up to Super Bowl LIV, and some of them were rather unique.
Californians wanted fried rice recipes, Rhode Islanders wanted baked ziti and Mississippians wanted green beans in beef broth.
The most popular recipe was chili. It was its own category on the map. Varying chili recipes were the most popular recipe in New York, Boston, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Arkansas, Texas and Missouri — home to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The second most popular recipe was jalapeño poppers, which were most searched in Utah, Washington, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Overall, the Google Trends findings confirmed the Super Bowl snack stereotypes, Fox News reports. Dip, chili and chicken wings remained in high demand.
Online retailer Bid-on-Equipment also published its data last month on each state’s favorite recipes from 2019. Their data found people were again, also excited about dips, and wings. The data showed cocktail weenies were the most popular in 11 different states.
Bid-on-Equiptment also surveyed 1,200 Americans to find out their spending habits and Super Bowl preferences. Their survey found the average Super Bowl watcher spent $69 on food, and those who hosted parties spent an average of $174. Additionally, 43% of those surveyed said they would prefer the big game be changed from Sunday to a Saturday.
