Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced Wednesday morning that he was dropping out of the 2020 presidential race.

  • Bloomberg endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, too.
  • Bloomberg said: “Three months ago, I entered the race to defeat Donald Trump. Today, I’m leaving for the same reason. Defeating Trump starts with uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it. It’s clear that is my friend and a great American, @JoeBiden.”

The decision takes Bloomberg out of a contested race that saw only four major candidates left for Super Tuesday.

Bloomberg told the Deseret News’ Boyd Matheson that he planned to earn some delegates on Tuesday night so that he could bring them to a contested convention, where he could try to rack up a win.

That, clearly, isn’t going to happen.
