On Saturday, the American Conservative Union announced that one of the attendees at its yearly Conservative Political Action Conference had tested positive for coronavirus, CNN reports.
The conference, held from Feb. 26 to 29 in Maryland, is a popular spot for conservative lawmakers, activists, and voters. This year, it included speeches form President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, ABC News reports.
While most of those people are not at high risk for contracting COVID-19, having no direct contact with the infected person, two United States lawmakers have announced that they plan to quarantine themselves in their homes, as they did have direct contact with that individual.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted last night that he interacted with the patient being treated for COVID-19 — shook his hand even. Cruz said he is not exhibiting any symptoms, and is only quarantining himself out of an abundance of caution.
In addition to Cruz, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar announced he had shook the virus patient’s hand multiple times. He said that he and three members of his staff will be closing their public office for the week and quarantining themselves separately. Gosar is also not currently exhibiting any symptoms.
Currently, no other CPAC attendees, staff or speakers have exhibited any symptoms of COVID-19 other than the original infected person, Fox News reports. The infected patient’s condition is also improving, CNN reports.
