Wearing a mask may make you short of breath. But experts suggest a bamboo mask might be the way to go if you can’t get used to cloth ones.

What’s going on:

  • Nxtstop has released a new brand of bamboo masks for children and adults, according to People magazine.
  • The masks are made out of 95% bamboo fabric.
  • The masks are reportedly anti-wrinkle and don’t contract odors.
  • Experts suggested the materials could make it more comfortable and breathable than a typical cotton mask.
  • Dr. Purvi Parikh, allergist and immunologist with Allergy & Asthma Network, told People magazine that the “bamboo material tends to absorb moisture and humidity better due to dry wick properties.”
  • She said bamboo “has shown to be a good breathable alternative” to cotton.
  • “Ideally, if double layered, tightly knit, and with a good fit, protection should be comparable,” she said.

A company leans into Bamboo masks

  • Green Resources Consulting — a business from Missouri — has decided to create more bamboo masks to help people stay safe, Yahoo News reports.
  • The masks use chemical properties of bamboo to fight off pollution.
  • The company has made slight changes to make these masks more applicable for the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Iveth Jalinski, the owner of Green Resources Consulting, said the company changed the masks to fight off COVID-19, KSHB reports.
  • “Bamboo is a high-quality anti-bacterial and it’s very important in the creation of the mask because it helps trap pathogens,” Jalinski said.
