The Wasdale mountain rescue team in northern England rescued a Saint Bernard over the weekend, carrying the dog, named Daisy, from the nation’s highest peak.
In total, 16 volunteers from the rescue team carried Daisy, who weighs 121 pounds, from Scafell Pike, the highest point in England, per CBS News.
- The rescue took five hours total to complete.
- Daisy had collapsed on Friday night while running down the hill with her owners.
- The dog reportedly had “signs of pain in her rear legs and was refusing to move,” according to CBS News.
- The dog received some pain relief and was brought onto a human-sized stretcher. She was given some treats, too.
The rescue organization said in a statement:
- “Having team members with their own pampered pooches at home and also our very own much adored search dog Jess, we recognise the distress that both an animal can feel and also that of their owners. Our members didn’t need to think twice about mobilising and deploying to help retrieve Daisy off England’s highest,” it added.
The puppy is currently in good spirits, per USA Today.

The team said that she “feels a bit guilty and slightly embarrassed about letting down the image of her cousins bouncing across the Alpine snows with barrels of brandy around their necks.”
