Former Vice President Joe Biden has picked California Sen. Kamala Harris to be his vice presidential running mate Tuesday following months of speculation.
Biden announced the decision in a tweet.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” he wrote.
Harris becomes the first Black woman on a major party ticket.
“Back when Kamala was attorney general (in California) she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”

We also learned today that Team Biden has a lot of the same discipline that Team Obama had. We can say we all knew it was gonna be Kamala, but not really and it didn’t leak.

Kamala is a perfect VP: someone you were told you were excited for but had to drop out of the primary before voting even began due to lack of interest, but not before morally castigating the guy who picked her and then backtracking

Pretty remarkable that in this day and age, the decision was kept so close and Biden broke the news himself: https://t.co/KcX5r7Gsvj

S/o to Kamala Harris for being the first black woman on a major political party ticket. Can’t imagine the impact this may have on so many young, minority females. Regardless of party, this is major for women of color! Love to see it.
