Former President Barack Obama spoke on the third night of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, imploring Americans to vote in what could be the most important election for democracy.

Obama criticized President Donald Trump in his speech as well, saying he never took to the job.

  • “I did hope for the sake of my country that Donald Trump might show some interest in running the country ... but he never did.”
  • “He’s shown no interest in putting in the work ... no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves.”

He also encouraged young Americans to vote and not let those in power limit the strength of democracy.

  • “Do not let them take away your power. Do not let them take away your democracy. Make a plan right now for how you’re going to get involved and vote,” the former president said of the current administration.
