The Centers or Disease Control and Prevention released a new set of guidelines this week, which includes a warning for people to not argue with those who choose not to wear masks.

What’s happening:

The CDC’s new guidelines included a number of tips on how to implement workplace safety during the pandemic.

  • Employees should not attempt to impose COVID-19 policies on customers who become violent, the CDC said, according to CNN.
  • “Don’t argue with a customer if they make threats or become violent.”

The CDC recommended businesses add policies like mask-wearing and social distancing. However, the CDC said employees may be threatened because of those policies.

  • Threats could include verbal assault, insulting, swear, slapping and choking, the CDC said.

Some extra context

  • These new guidelines come as more violent incidents pop up around the country related to masks.
  • Walmart, Home Depot, CVS and Target are some of the major retailers to only help customers that have decided to wear masks.
  • No national mandate exists for masks. Several states, counties and cities have their own mask mandates.
