Deadly wildfires continue to churn through the western United States as unhealthy levels of smoke permeate the air. And dozens of people remain missing throughout the West Coast as thousands have been displaced from their homes.

  • So far, at least 28 people in total have died from the wildfires, according to CNN.
  • In Oregon, 22 people are missing, according to The Guardian
  • Oregon will deploy the National Guard to destroyed neighborhoods, sending up to 1,000 troops there, The Guardian reports.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said: “As of now, there are early reports from our state police that there are dozens of missing persons related to the fires specifically in Jackson, Lane and Marion counties.”

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, 97 large fires were burning across the West on Saturday, including 12 in Idaho, nine in Montana and five in Utah.

  • Marian Telersky, who lost her home in the southern Oregon city of Talent, told KOBI: “You just never believe it’s all going to go up in flames. It’s a lot to handle.”
