Police in Sussex, England, have released new video footage of an accident as a part of its new road safety campaign.
- The footage shows a man — who was texting while driving — hit a median and tip onto the side, nearly hitting an oncoming vehicle.
- The police said the man needed to have his arm amputated due to the crash.
- The driver agreed to let police share the footage.
Officials hope the video will teach people not to drive and text at the same time.
- “The video being shared by Sussex police is a shocking display of the consequences of dangerous driving and I am grateful to those that have agreed to share this,” police commissioner Katy Bourne said, according to Fox News. “It really enforces the fact that we all use the roads and must share the responsibility of ensuring the safety of ourselves and others.”
Dave Miller, Sussex police assstant chief constable, said the video isn’t meant to scare people, but rather, teach them a lesson about texting, Metro News reports.
- “By taking personal responsibility and driving safely and sensibly, you can help us reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured,” he said.
