Seven states across the Midwest have seen upticks in case of the coronavirus lately, and people who live there may want to be on alert this Labor Day weekend.
What’s going on?
Anthony Fauci, one of the country’s top disease experts, said there could be more cases this fall if Americans remain “careless” over the weekend, Bloomberg reports.
- “There are several states that are at risk for surging, namely North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois,” Fauci said. “Those states are starting to see an increase in the percent positive of their testing; that is generally predictive that there’s going to be a problem.”
Memorial Day stands as a turning point for reopening states. July 4 was another day for big spikes with more than 60,000 cases coming after the weekend.
Labor Day could pose more problems.
- “If we’re careless about it, then we could wind up with a surge following Labor Day,” Fauci said. “It really depends on how we behave as a country.”
