China has started building a massive quarantine camp that holds more than 4,000 people to deal with a recent coronavirus outbreak within the country, CNN reports.

  • The outbreak has led to millions of people going into lockdown.
  • The camp is located in Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital of Hebei province, which is outside of Beijing.
  • The camps come with Wi-Fi and air conditioning, per The Week.

Why it’s happening

A recent rise in COVID-19 cases has plagued the country. Officials expressed worry as the recent spike has happened ahead of the Lunar New Year, a big holiday in China where family members often gather together, according to CNN.

  • “The efforts are reminiscent of Beijing’s efforts to build makeshift hospitals in Wuhan, the centre of the virus, days after it first broke out,” according to The Week.
