A massive tornado ripped through the Birmingham, Alabama, area on Monday, leading to one death and multiple injures.

  • The tornado led to widespread damage in the area, too.

Per CNN, the tornado — described as “large and extremely dangerous” — ripped through a hotel and ripped off a church's roof.

  • “Seventeen patients were (taken) to the ER, with various injuries and some critical,” Fire Chief Justin McKenzie told CNN.
  • Power lines fell in the area, too, which caused accidents along the roads.

Videos and photos of the tornado popped up on social media Tuesday, giving everyone across the nation a chance to see the deadly storm.

Officials are still trying to clean up the damage and rescue people. In fact, fire chief Justin McKenzie told WVTM that 17 people were taken to the hospital due to injuries while 11 people were treated on the scene during the storms.
