The company Xiaomi has released details about a new phone concept that comes with a “quad-curved waterfall display.”

  • That means the phone will have “waterfall” curves on the sides, top and bottom of the phone, which means there are no ports or buttons on the phone.
  • “Pushing the limits of the classic smartphone form factor, Xiaomi engineers tried to make the smartphone as simple as possible and bring the ‘just a screen’ form factor a step closer to life,” according to Xiaomi.

The video below can show you how it works.

Why it matters

As The Verge reports, concept designs for phones are often shown in person. But the coronavirus pandemic has made it hard for people to see this in person. The company confirmed to The Verge that the phone does exist and it’s currently being used.

The phone's lack of ports and buttons means the upcoming phone won’t have a charger. Rather, the company said it would embrace a new remote wireless “air charge” technology, according to MacRumors.

It’s unclear when the phone will drop.
