Buckingham Palace has issued a statement about the interview with Prince Harry and Meghan that aired over the weekend.
- “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the statement read.
- “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
- “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
By Tuesday morning, Buckingham Palace had yet to release an announcement. BBC royal correspondent Daniela Relph said the palace would not “want to feel rushed into saying something” about Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Prince Harry and Meghan.
Context
Oprah Winfrey hosted an exclusive interview with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle Sunday night. The couple talked about mental health struggles, the emotional battle of working with the royal family and they revealed the gender for their next baby, USA Today reports.
- Meghan said in the interview that her one regret with the royal family was believing the family when they said she would be protected.
- Meghan also said she felt she lost her freedom within the royal family. She said her mental health became so bad that she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
Calls for a reaction
Buckingham Palace has reportedly faced calls to react to the claims from Harry and Meghan, according to CNN. But palace officials are still scrambling to develop a response to Harry and Meghan’s claims that their pleas for help for their mental health were not met.
Buckingham Palace said it would investigate the allegations of Meghan’s alleged bullying. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement that Meghan was “saddened by this latest attack on her character.”
Meanwhile, some American politicians and media personalities spoke about the interview, though, as the Deseret News reported.
