Pfizer and BioNTech released new data Thursday that revealed their COVID-19 vaccine can create high immunity against the novel coronavirus for at least six months.
How safe is the Pfizer vaccine?
Pfizer and BioNTech announced Thursday that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was 91.3% effective at stopping symptomatic COVID-19 for at least six months after the second dose.
- There were no safety concerns reported.
The study found 927 symptomatic COVID-19 cases among 46,307 participants. However, 850 of those patients were given a placebo and 77 came from the vaccinated group, according to Axios.
- So, again, 77 out of 46,307 had symptoms of COVID-19 after six months.
- No one in the vaccinated group had severe COVID-19 symptoms.
Any new side effects from Pfizer’s vaccine?
The companies said the data show side effects to be consistent with what’s been reported before. Per CNN, the most common “adverse events” included fatigue, headaches and some pain around the injection spot.
What’s next for Pfizer’s vaccine?
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said the company will seek full approval from the Food and Drug Administration, rather than just emergency use authorization.
