The search for Brian Laundrie, the missing boyfriend of Gabby Petito, is contained to only Florida right now, the North Port Police Department told the Deseret News Thursday.
Laundrie has been missing since Sept. 14. He and Gabby Petito went on a cross-country road trip this summer, but only Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1. Ten days later, Petito was reported missing.
On Sunday, the FBI said it had found human remains in Wyoming that were consistent with the description of Gabby Petito. A full forensic analysis is coming this week.
Since Laundrie disappeared, North Port police have been focusing their search at the Carlton Reserve, a 25,000-acre park, in Sarasota County, Florida.
When asked if the search for Laundrie included areas in Utah, Wyoming or other Western locations, the North Port Police Department said the search has been contained to Florida.
“Just here,” North Port police spokesperson Joshua Taylor told the Deseret News in an email.
There were some news and social media reports that Laundrie’s body had been found at the Tillman’s Corner Walmart location near Mobile, Alabama, as I wrote for the Deseret News. However, police in Mobile told WKRG News 5 on Monday that the body was not Laundrie.
Still, authorities in Mobile are still investigating reports that Laundrie was spotted in Alabama.
