The neighbors of Brian Laundrie — the boyfriend of the late Gabby Petito — said Laundrie and his family went on a camping trip days after Laundrie returned home to Florida without Petito.
Petito and Laundrie had been on a cross-country road trip, which included stops in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and more. Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1. It wasn’t until Sept. 11 that Petito was reported missing by authorities.
Charlene and William Guthrie, who are neighbors to the Laundries in North Port, told Fox News that they saw the Laundrie family with a new camper vehicle in recent weeks.
“I saw them doing some work. And then when they prepared for their trip, I saw them loading the camper,” William Guthrie said.
He added that the Laundries packed up and left for the weekend. During that time, the police showed up to Guthrie’s home to ask questions about Petito’s disappearance.
He said it was odd that the family would go on a camping trip with their son in a small camping vehicle.
The search for Laundrie has continued this week. He is a person of interest in the case of Gabby Petito, who was found dead earlier this week. The FBI confirmed Tuesday that it had found Petito’s body in Wyoming and that she had died by homicide.
So far, police are focused on the Carlton Reserve, a 25,000-acre park in Sarasota County, Florida. North Port police told the Deseret News. A dive team searched through the bodies of water in the area Wednesday. North Port police told the Deseret News late Tuesday that the same operation as before would happen on Thursday.
