While speaking about a potential TikTok deal, President Donald Trump shared that he will visit China next year.
The announcement followed a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday morning, per The Associated Press.
Not only will Trump be visiting China early next year but he will also be meeting with Xi at a regional summit in South Korea at the end of October.
In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump also shared that the Chinese president will come to the U.S. “at an appropriate time.”
Friday’s call was Trump’s second call with Xi since he returned to the White House and implemented unprecedented tariffs on China.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea, where Xi and Trump will meet later this year, runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, per the AP.
Trump did not give a date for his future visit to China but said that it will be “in the early part of next year,” per his Truth Social post.
“The call was a very good one, we will be speaking again by phone, appreciate the TikTok approval, and both look forward to meeting at APEC!” the president wrote about his call with Xi.
The last time a U.S. president visited China
During his first term, Trump visited China for a state visit in November 2017, per a release from the White House. He met with Xi during that visit as well.
Former President Joe Biden did not visit the country during his presidency.
Previous presidents such as Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton visited China as well.
