Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Thursday by a grand jury on two counts, for allegedly making a false statement and obstruction of justice.

Comey has been under investigation by the FBI for allegedly making false statements to Congress on Sept. 30, 2020, on the investigation into the relationship between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

The case against Comey is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, where Lindsey Halligan, a White House aide, is the acting U.S. attorney.

After the news broke about Comey’s indictment, Attorney General Pam Bondi released a statement seemingly about the case.

“No one is above the law,” she said. “Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.”

Trump was more direct in a post on Truth Social.

“JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI,” he wrote. “Today he was indicted by a Grand Jury on two felony counts for various illegal and unlawful acts. He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump has publicly pressured Bondi to pursue legal action against Comey and others over their handling of the Russia-Trump investigation.

Documents released earlier this year by Tulsi Gabbard, director of National Intelligence, seem to suggest agents expressed doubts about the veracity of intelligence reports provided by the Clinton campaign that were used in the investigation into Trump’s campaign, but those doubts were ignored by members of the Obama administration who were leading the investigation, including Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Brennan is also reportedly under investigation.
