The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran in late February, over worries the Iranian regime was close to gaining a nuclear weapon and the regime’s growing missile program.
Early strikes took out most of the top regime leadership and obliterated much of Iran’s military.
Trump administration officials initially said the operation would last about 4-6 weeks but that timeline appears to have changed as initial peace talks between the parties fell apart.
Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner engaged in negotiations with Iranian officials in Islamabad, but after 21 hours of talks, they emerged unsuccessful in reaching a lasting agreement.
President Donald Trump has criticized the United Nations and other allied countries that have not aided in the war effort.
Amid the fighting, several Gulf States have been hit with retaliatory strikes from Iran.
