SOUTH JORDAN — A fight between two roommates ended early Saturday with one man shooting the other man twice, police say.
Multiple people were inside the bedroom — including an 8-year-old boy — when the shootings occurred.
The incident happened about 1:40 a.m. Saturday at 11481 S. Jordan Farms Road. Witnesses said Christopher L. Parnell, 32, started a physical fight with Steven Roger Madison, 58, in Madison’s bedroom, a police affidavit states.
The fight escalated and Madison picked up a .357 Magnum pistol and fired it at Parnell, striking him twice, according to the affidavit. Parnell was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, said South Jordan Police Lt. Matt Pennington.
Madison later told police that Parnell was upset and blamed him for putting some kind of “tape” and “message” on his cellphone and went into his bedroom, pushed him and struck him in the face, the affidavit states. He said someone else punched Parnell, stopping the attack, but he fired at Parnell to prevent him from coming at him again, police wrote.
Madison was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted murder, felony discharge of a firearm and domestic violence in the presence of a child, Pennington said.
Police said there were 10 people inside the home at the time, including the child.
“So you got a lot of people that live at that residence that are all roommates,” Pennington said.
The two men have been roommates about two years, according to the affidavit.
