Alex Grey, 14, reaches for a turkey while volunteering with the 27th annual Thanksgiving Food Box Giveaway at the Salt Lake City Mission in Salt Lake City on Thursday. Each family of up to five members received a box full of ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner, including mashed potatoes, stuffing, pie and bread, as well as a turkey or a ham. Families of six or more received two boxes and two turkeys or hams. “There are many people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. Many of these families can’t afford a nice holiday meal or provide warm clothing for their families,” said Rev. Joe Vazquez, co-executive director of the mission, in a statement. ”We’re looking for compassionate people to partner with us to bless those in need this holiday season. Your support helps provide a festive atmosphere while providing much needed services to a vulnerable population.” Donations can be dropped off at the mission, 1151 S. Redwood Road No. 106. Nonperishable boxed and canned items are especially needed.
