SOUTH SALT LAKE — A pedestrian was killed in a crash in South Salt Lake on Tuesday evening.
The man, who did not have identification on him, appeared to be in his 40s, police said.
Investigators believe the man was experiencing homelessness and may have been on his way to the recently-opened homeless resource center a half-block away from the crash.
The crash took place about 6:30 p.m. in the area of 3300 South and 900 West.
“With this new shelter in this area, people just have to be very, very careful, vigilant, and really watch the road,” said Gary Keller, executive officer with the South Salt Lake Police Department. “But, you know, in the middle of the block with low light, it’s hard to see anybody in bright clothing.”
The man was in critical condition when first responders arrived on the scene and died from his injuries at the hospital.
Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The man was not in a crosswalk, police said.
