SALT LAKE CITY — Lindsie Smith, associate director of the Clark Planetarium, on Tuesday was named director of the facility following the retirement of longtime director Seth Jarvis.

Smith’s appointment is effective Nov. 8.

“We’re thrilled that Lindsie has accepted our offer to lead the Clark Planetarium team,” Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson said in a statement. “Lindsie’s passion for community engagement and for making science accessible to all will help lead Clark Planetarium and its team into its next era.”

According to Salt Lake County Community Services Director Holly Yocum, Smith brings years of experience in nonprofit administration leadership, community engagement and marketing strategy.

In her previous role at the planetarium, Smith, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, oversaw development, marketing and operations.

She previously worked for Kimball Art Center, Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum and Junior Achievement of Utah. She served on the Utah Film Center’s Tumbleweeds Film Festival committee, and the Salt Lake City Downtown Alliance board and marketing committee.

In her statement, Wilson also thanked Jarvis for stewardship of the facility.
