WEBER COUNTY — An 8-year-old child was hit by a car and killed on Thursday afternoon while riding his bike in Weber County, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies were dispatched to the area near 900 North and 4400 West, in an unincorporated part of the county, about 3:30 p.m., Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Cortney Ryan said.
The child had been riding his bike in the dirt along the side of the road when the crash happened, Ryan said. There were no sidewalks on that particular road, according to the lieutenant.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident, but as of Thursday evening it “appears to be a very unfortunate accident,” Ryan said.
The investigation so far doesn’t indicate that speed or impairment were factors in the crash, Ryan said. The driver in the crash is cooperating fully with investigators.
