MURRAY — A man with a violent criminal history who investigators say set a woman on fire inside a hotel was arrested Thursday.
Just before 3 a.m. officers were called to the Studio 6 Hotel, 975 E. 6600 South, where a 34-year-old woman suffered burns over 70% of her body after a man “poured an unknown accelerant on her and lit her on fire,” according to a prepared statement from Murray police.
The incident happened in a common area of the hotel, police stated. A motive for the attack was not immediately known, but police believe the woman knew the man suspected of assaulting her.
Andrew Todd Curtis, 44, of Moab, was arrested just before 11 a.m, Murray police announced Thursday afternoon without adding any other details.
Curtis has been involved in several violent incidents in the past, including the fatal stabbing of a man in Moab in 2010. He was sentenced to up to five years in the Utah State Prison for that incident. That sentence came eight years after he was sentenced to prison on an aggravated assault conviction. Curtis was originally charged with attempted murder in that case, according to court records.
