SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority’s board of trustees has adopted proposed changes to its fare structure.
The changes will go into effect Dec. 1 and will apply consistent multipliers to the base fare, simplifying how the pricing of other public fares and passes are determined.
The base fare — the amount charged for an adult one-way fare — is $2.50 and will not change.
Premium bus services, which will include express buses, ski buses and the Salt Lake-Park City Express, will be consistently priced at two times the base fare, or $5. The current fare for express buses is $5.50, and $4.50 for ski buses and the Salt Lake-Park City Express.
The regular monthly fare, which includes bus and TRAX, will go from $83.75 to $85. That rate was calculated by multiplying 34 trips at $2.50 a trip.
The premium monthly fare, which includes bus, TRAX and FrontRunner, will go from $198 to $170, which is two times the base fare multiplied by 34 trips.
The cost of a day pass will drop by $1.25, from $6.25 to $5.
In addition, the discount for those holding the youth monthly pass and the Horizon Cardholder pass will be 50% instead of 25%, while those using the Farepay Card will get 20% off regular bus fare rather than a 40% discount.
The agency will also eliminate the premium monthly upgrade pass, token sales, the Park City 30-day pass, the Flex Route deviations punch pass, and monthly passes sold on ticket vending machines.
