SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say shot and killed his roommate was arrested Tuesday in Salt Lake City.
Ezekiel Sedale Mayblen, 24, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of murder.
About 10 p.m. Monday, police were called to the area of 700 East and 1700 South on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found Mayblen, who at first said there had been a shootout between two people and his gun was used, according to a police affidavit.
He then told investigators that the deceased man was his roommate and that the roommate had used Mayblen’s gun to shoot himself, the affidavit states.
“After the shooting, (Mayblen) removed the magazine from the firearm and threw the firearm and magazine into different adjacent yards and fled the scene,” according to the affidavit.
But detectives say Mayblen’s version of events is “inconsistent with witness accounts, dispatch recordings and physical evidence located on scene,” the affidavit states. “The blood pattern on the shoes were not consistent with the story provided.”
Mayblen was arrested. The identity of the man who killed had not been released Tuesday pending notification of family members.
