HURRICANE — An 11-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered in a watercraft collision at Sand Hollow State Park earlier this week, Utah State Park officials said Wednesday.
On Monday about 1:15 p.m., two personal watercrafts, each carrying one adult with two children, collided on Sand Hollow Reservoir. Ethan David Law, 11, of Arizona, died Tuesday from his injuries.
In the collision, a father and two children were thrown from their vessel into the water.
All six people involved in the crash wore life jackets, state park officials noted.
Witnesses from the beach used a boat to go and help the father and children, who were injured.
The witnesses brought the man and two children back to shore where others provided first aid and administered CPR on all three until state park rangers and an ambulance arrived.
The father and two kids were then transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Injuries sustained by the father and other child were not considered life-threatening.
The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extended condolences to family and friends impacted by the tragedy.
Additionally, officials reminded boaters in Utah of a state law requiring water vessels to remain at least 150 feet away from others when operating above a “wakeless speed.”
As of Wednesday, the incident remained under investigation.
