FARMINGTON — An Ogden man who police say was involved in an ATV crash in Farmington Canyon that resulted in the death of his passenger has been arrested.

Matthew Daniel Murphy, 40, was arrested Wednesday for investigation of automobile homicide.

On Sept. 12, the Davis County sheriff’s search and rescue team respond to Farmington Canyon on a report of a rollover ATV crash. Trevor Arie Dykes, 31, was killed while riding on an ATV being driven by Murphy, according to a police affidavit.

Murphy made statements about drinking alcohol and had alcohol on his breath, according to police. An hour after 911 was called to report the crash, Murphy’s blood was collected. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.11%, or over twice the legal limit, the affidavit states.

“This is a tragic situation for everyone involved,” Davis County Sheriff Kelly Sparks said in a statement. “It is also a reminder of the importance of responsible recreation. This includes but is not limited to wearing protective gear, obeying speed limits, and not operating motorized vehicles when under the influence of any substance.”
